This year challenge yourself to one of our exhilerating ride-outs in some jaw-dropping, stupendously beautiful landscape here in the Tweed Valley. Discover a landscape steeped in history, ride fun trails known only to the locals and meet new biking buddies along the way.
Swift Trails run ride-outs in and around the Scottish Borders. Our rides vary from "swift-ones" lasting around 1.5-2 hrs to "epics" 4-6 hours.
Amazingly great value for only £15/place!
All our ride-outs are led by fully qualified Mountain Bike Leaders. We hold outdoor first aid qualifications with ITC, a recognised national awarding body for first aid training and hold insurance through British Cycling.
A good level of fitness is recommended for all rides but we ride at a sociable pace, have frequent stops and always aim to stop somewhere which serves coffee and cake!
Riding the Roman Road from West Linton
Follow the old Roman Road from West Linton to Garvald and return via Medwynhead and West Water reservoir. This road once linked the Roman garrisons at Biggar and Elginhaugh and follows the contour along the side of the Pentland Hills, and is therefore relatively flat but largely unsurfaced. Crossing over vast tracts of moorland this route is big on expansive views and short on climbs - It will be a big hit with those who don't favour the lung-busting climbs!
Start/Finish: West Linton Golf Club - Medwyn Road, West Linton EH46 7HN (limited transport available with Swift Trails leaving Kingsmeadows carpark, Peebles @ 9:15am)
Start time: 10:00am (arrive 15 minutes early)
Terrain: Unsurfaced farm tracks and multi-use trails. A few small burn crossings. Quiet country lanes.
Technical difficulty: GREEN Fitness rating: GREEN
