A Peebles Classic - Gypsy Glen
This classic MTB ride takes its name from the small wooded Glen through which the Haystoun Burn flows at the western end of the route. The ride starts with a sustained climb through Cardrona Forest before emerging onto open moorland and joining the Cross Borders Drove Road which skirts round the southern boundary of the forest. Once reaching the summit of Kirkhope Law at 537 metres, you are rewarded with a long, undulating descent back down to Peebles along the ridgeline which in August will be a-wash with purple Heather.
This ride takes you into pretty remote terrain and as such a good level of fitness and technical ability is required. The first part of the ride climbs steadily and once onto the open moor the trail becomes fairly rough and at times boggy depending on the weather conditions. The descent similarly follows a fairly rough track which in areas can be rutted and wet. Good bike control is essential.
