The Swift Trails Big Day Out: Its really quite hard to beat the stupendousness of the trails in the Tweed Valley so this year we're staying close to home and riding one of the famous local routes, namely the John Buchan Way named after John Buchan, author of the Thirty-Nine Steps who lived in the area. The route crosses some of the most beautiful hills in Southern Scotland and drops into the valleys of the Manor and Stobo. The majority of the trail is on grass paths and hillside tracks and although the total ascent nears almost 900 metres the climbing never feels steep or sustained. A stop for lunch at Laurel Bank tearoom in Broughton will soon envigorate us for the return route back to Peebles.
