Our 4 hour coaching class is designed for novice riders who are out enjoying the blue trails but not sure how to negotiate features when the terrain gets a bit gnarlier. The coaching session takes place at Glentress Forest in small groups with a maximum number of 6 riders in each class. The emphasis is on breaking features down so the rider understands what techniques are required for riding a variety of typical features found on Blue and Red graded trails. We take the ‘mystery’ out of more technical features so they are safe and fun to ride.
Classes include tuition on:
- ‘Attack’ position
- Pumping & absorbing
- Weight-shifting for climbing & descending
- Developing balance – half-pedalling & track-stands
- Rolling drop-offs
- Riding roots & rocks
- Descending & technical climbing
- Cornering
Is this course for me? You have been riding MTB for a while and have a reasonable level of fitness on Green and Blue trails but generally avoid features on the trail as you’re not sure how to tackle them.
Every time you book a course or activity with Swift Trails we will donate £1 to the Tweed Valley Trail Association
We enjoy and benefit from a wonderful community of bikers here in the Tweed Valley who volunteer their free time to make sure the trails are maintained and safe to ride. They depend on voluntary contributions to continue their valuable work.

Brilliant skills session with Lucy. Excellent teacher, explaining everything clearly. Learned so much – manuals, pedal assist front wheel lifts, rear wheel lifts, and just general pointers on my riding. Can’t wait to put it all into practice on the trails!

Thanks to Lucy for a great afternoon improving my technical skills! I have lots to practise but now I know what to work on & how to do it.

Thanks again for such a wonderful session. Annette and I both think you have a fantastic manner and a way of explaining things that makes so much sense. We both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and are now motivated to get out more and start practising all that you taught us. Alison November 2019
