Peebles to the Black Meldons via Stewarton
I've included this ride for the third year running, quite simply because its one of my favourites and never fails to please. After the initial lung-busting climb up the infamous "Hammy Hill" the route flattens to take in some extensive views over the Tweed Valley. From Nether Stewarton the trail runs gently downhill through the southerly edge of Cloich Forest and then intersects the Meldons down to Lyne Station. We cross the Tweed and ride through Barnes Estate before following the river back to Peebles.
A bit of everything on this route: Farm tracks and forest trails, single track through open fields, public highway. Don’t be put off by the initial climb. Its steep but you get that over with pretty quickly and once out on the top its worth it for the views.
